NICHOLAS KINSEY
Biography
writer, director, producer, director of photography and editor
Nicholas Kinsey is a Canadian of English origin, born in Ontario and raised in England (dual nationality). With a scientific background and a capacity to write that he inherited from his mother, a short story writer, he began working in the film industry as a cameraman. His director credits include Killing Ruth - the Snuff Dialogues (2010), Leatha Acidents (2010), Women Without Wings (2002), and Short Change (1989). He is presently working on the post-production of his new feature Fire Watch to be released in 2012 and editing a new TV pilot drama series Cottage in America.
Kinsey was producer, director of photography and editor on Doug Sutherland’s feature films: Lakefront (2004), The Backup Man (2006)and the recent Stray Dogs. He has directed and photographed some 500 films and videos over his career including his recent award-winning documentary Martin Frobisher and the Baffin Fraud (2004) that won a Gold Remi at the Houston Worldfest 2005.
Over his career Kinsey has written ten feature screenplays and worked as script-editor on two recent feature productions. Kinsey is a highly versatile and technically proficient filmmaker who has hosted European co-production seminars (The Minority Co-Producer & Deal Breaker Conference at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International film festival in November 2004) and has written technical articles on film editing (The Cut Film Interface for 35mm Movie Production) and on film production in foreign locations. His knowledge of the industry is wide-ranging, having been a director of photography, a scriptwriter, a film editor and a feature film director. Although Kinsey is committed to drama, he still loves the documentary form and its challenges.
